Today, we hike to the towers of Paine: 11 km uphill (and the same distance back).
We set off at 7:30 AM in the camper, with Pisley driving, along the usual straight road.
About half an hour later, just before entering the park, we pass a beautiful lagoon.
At the park’s parking area, it’s completely full… finding a spot for a camper isn’t easy, but we manage to squeeze it in.
The hike begins with an immediate surprise: a woodpecker with a striking red head.
We pass several picturesque streams and reach the aptly named Paso del Viento (Windy Pass).
The climb takes four hours, and the trail is crowded with people.
Exhausted, we finally reach the top at 1:30 PM. The Towers are stunning, but the smooth rock beneath them, dipping into the lake, is even more mesmerizing.
We eat our three sandwiches and take a nap under the Towers.
The return hike is quicker, but after 22 km, the exhaustion catches up with us. Toni and I collapse in the camper (Photo 13).
Tomorrow is a 100 km bike ride—time to rest!
