Today we had a long-awaited kayaking experience, booked over a year ago! As mentioned yesterday, we went ahead with it despite the light rain, though luckily there was no wind. We were provided with all the necessary gear and accessories, along with detailed safety instructions.
The outing began, but Fabio and Alberto’s kayak ran into trouble right away—Alberto’s foot slipped out of the pedal that controls the rudder. Even after fixing it, their kayak covered much more distance than the others because, instead of going straight, Alberto navigated in a zigzag pattern, almost like a slalom!
Still, it was a fantastic experience. We got very close to the glacier’s face (called ventisquero here) and paddled around several icebergs. After more than two hours on the water, the trip ended with much-needed hot tea to warm us up.
We then set off to catch the boat that would take us back to the camper. Shortly after we began walking, Antonio turned back to retrieve a sweater he thought he had left behind, only to discover it was tied around his waist the whole time!
The familiar three-hour hike followed, with everyone walking at different paces depending on their fitness levels and the weight of their backpacks. When we finally reached the dock, there was a bar, but it had nothing to eat. The hungriest among us made do with crackers and tuna from a tiny mini-market.
Exhausted, we returned to Villa Rio Serrano, where four of us stayed in a glamping site. While charming in appearance, it proved to be highly impractical and miserably cold at night—a night to forget.
