LET’S BEGIN: THE FIRST 100 KM BY BIKE

Today, November 20th, marked the first day of our bike journey.
Before setting off, we had to resolve a few issues with the bikes (adjusting a gear, buying a forgotten helmet and a rack, etc.).
We left mid-morning from the center of Puerto Montt, starting at kilometer 0 of the Carretera Austral.
It was a very emotional moment after two years of preparations.
During this first stage, we covered 100 km by bike from Puerto Montt to Hornopirén.
Most of the route followed the coastal road, which is paved, passing through small villages with colorful wooden houses.
About 40 km into the journey, we took a ferry to cross an 8 km stretch of sea between Caleta La Arena and Caleta Puelche.
We arrived in Hornopirén in the mid-afternoon, a beautiful tourist town with a view of a majestic volcano that shares its name.
Tomorrow morning, we set off on the second stage, a 50 km ride, starting with a ferry crossing.
