This morning, we set off early from Villa Amenigual and, after 80 km, arrived at a Cabaña (Refugio Macales) on the road leading to the city of Coyhaique.
Throughout the journey, we enjoyed breathtaking vegetation: small trees with red flowers (known as Chilco), bushes with magnificent yellow flowers (a type of mimosa called retama amarilla in Chile), and vast fields of purple flowers. The latter, truly stunning, are shaped like corn cobs but are actually lupine plants, which produce small, round, yellow seed pods.
Once again, we experienced some rain at the start and end of the trip, but overall, the weather was better than previous days, with even a few brief moments of sunshine.
Today, Nicola and Alberto managed an unusual feat: riding their bikes over a cow lying across the road.
We also passed the 500 km mark on the Carretera Austral and arrived at the Cabaña Refugio, where we were greeted by the usual three dogs with kind but slightly sad eyes.
